FAHSI is currently
looking for volunteers for the following positions:
Office Interns
Provide general
clerical/office support including filing, word processing, answering phones,
mass mailings, and other administrative tasks. Or assist in events and activities
for the Seniors, Women and Youth Programs.
Activity Instructors
Serve as volunteer
instructor/facilitator in the
Development Assistants
Assist in identifying and
researching funding sources including private foundations, corporate giving
programs, and individual donors.
Design/Publishing Assistant
You have a keen eye for design,
can discern good layouts (all types of media) from the bad and know why.
You are detail oriented and understand that producing design materials requires
good craftsmanship and editorial skills. You have working knowledge of Adobe
Photoshop and Illustrator, and know how to produce a PDF document. Some
sort of paper cutting items aside from scissors (i.e. exacto knife, mass paper
cutter, utility knife) and knowledge of various production materials (i.e.
rubber cement, matting material and T/L shaped rulers) are a plus.
- Basic principles of design
- Good Editorial/Craftsmanship
- Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
Additional but not necessary
skills:
- Working knowledge of Adobe
Creative Suite
- Adobe Flash
Volunteer “Webster”
Maybe you have your own web site
that you can’t stop tweaking. Or, you may enjoy creating web pages for
some businesses looking for an online presence. You may even see yourself
crafting XHTML and CSS for a living because you love it so much. So, why
not put that passion to good use to help boost FAHSI in its latest bid to reach
out World Wide Web. You will be involved with taking information
architecture and design mock-ups and nailing them down with XHTML and
CSS. This may also involve image generation from Photoshop (access to
this software may not be provided so it would be beneficial if you had your own
copy). Experience with JavaScript would also be beneficial in addition to
PHP, MySQL, and Drupal. We are quite flexible in terms of proficiency
with any of these skills. Finally, you will be able to contribute from
home!
Skills:
- XHTML (i.e. Tables for layout are a no-no)
- CSS
Useful but not required:
- Photoshop
- JavaScript
- PHP
- MySQL
- Drupal
Volunteer “Web Usability Agent”
You’re a user and a critic.
You may use the internet to check on your web e-mail, share photos, do online
banking, shopping, and even participate in one or five of those social
networking sites. Over the course of your web experience you’ve developed
a good idea of what works and what doesn’t for you. You will help serve
as an advocate for the future users of the FAHSI web site. As a result,
your feedback will help shape the information architecture and “click-flow” of
the web content.
Skills:
- Ability to participate in web site usability
sessions. (Can be done from your own computer).
- Computer and internet proficiency can vary as we want
a representative sample of potential online visitors.

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION
AND RECOGNITION
Over the years, FAHSI has
always been grateful of the support given and shown by volunteers. With our
small and very active staff, we appreciate all the help we receive.
With the aid of
individuals involved in the FAHSI community, FAHSI has had seminars concerning
the well-being of our lolo and lola and those instilling
curiosity and interest of Filipino culture and heritage among our kabataan ;
health fairs providing free medical information and check-ups to promote
healthy living; a tiangge (flea market) where anyone can sell or promote
one's wares; and an elections forum disseminating patterns in voting
registration among Asian & Pacific Islanders and targeting the political
consciousness of Filipinos. All the while, FAHSI continued its youth programs,
senior citizens' support group, and women's support group.
Today, we give thanks not
only to volunteers who have dedicated one's time and effort to the programs of
FAHSI but also to members who have supported the organizations during the
prosperous and hard times. We recognize all your contributions.
