FILIPINO AMERICAN HUMAN SERVICES, INC.

Dear Friends of FAHSI,

While the year is over and the beauty of the fall season surrounds us, we at FAHSI continue to push forward with our mission of serving the Youth, Women, Elderly and Recent Immigrants. We thank and congratulate every contributor to FAHSI for making these victories possible, and we invite those of you who recognize the value in our work to join us.

We remain mindful of the challenges that the new economy brings as we are of the rising number of local families in need of our services. Government funding is low and more and more FAHSI is having to rely on sponsorships from individuals just like you. From all of you, we will need ideas; from some of you, funding; and from others, your labor. Together, we will continue to address basic needs and create new solutions.

As the Board President, one of my goals this year is to improve and maintain efficient and effective communication between FAHSI and its friends. There has been an improvement to the website to make it more informative and useful; we believe that this is a better way of passing on news and information in a more timely fashion. Please check out our website for more information. I think you will be very impressed. FAHSI also has an outline of events for the upcoming year, and we are working to make them successful. The board encourages and appreciates any and all support of these events. As always, the funds raised directly benefit our programs.

Finally, the Board of Directors would like to thank the many hands and hearts that make FAHSI’s plans a reality. We praise our highly qualified and caring staff and volunteers who go above and beyond on a daily basis. They continue to be a vital part of our work. Without the dedicated men and women who share their time and talents with us, we would not be able to accomplish our many tasks. We thank all of them! More importantly, WE THANK YOU in advance for your participation. We will face enormous challenges that promise to test our faith and perseverance, but as FAHSI continues to build momentum and find more ways to serve the community, we know your energy and input will make all the difference.

We want to stay in touch with you. Thus, we invite you to fill out an information card for our records. Please be advised that we take your confidentiality very seriously and will not share or sell your information to others.

It’s been a great year, and we look forward to a new and exciting year with you! Please have a great holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Maraming maraming salamat po!

Sincerely,

Joanna Kirby, Esq.

President of the Board of Directors

“The RMHC/ASIA Scholarship Program has a wonderful history of recognizing Asian American students who are not only among the best and brightest academically but are also making significant contributions to their communities,” said Diane Koury, President of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the New York Tri-State Area. “This year, as part of our on-going commitment to high school seniors, the application has moved exclusively online to streamline the process and allow students to effectively communicate and collaborate with their grantees.”

About the Scholarships

Scholarship recipients must enroll in and attend a two- or four-year accredited college or university or vocational/technical school in the academic year following their selection. Scholarship funds will be applied toward tuition, fees and other appropriate educational expenses, as determined by RMHC.

Eligibility

About RMHC Scholarship Programs

The RMHC began its support of scholarship programs in 1985 by committing $50,000 toward the first scholarships awarded through the Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (HACER) program. In 2001, the program began with the RMHC/ASIA (Asian Students Increasing Awareness) and the RMHC/AAFA (African American Future Achievers Scholarships). By 2007 the U.S. RMHC Scholarship Program had awarded more than $29 million in scholarships. To date, RMHC National has awarded more than $32 million to help high school seniors attend college.
